Waikato WEC Trekker Stumbles into Unknown Territory

Josh had completed a fantastic gap-year programme called Headspace and wanted a ‘next step’ into cross-cultural mission.  Enter WEC International.  Within a few meetings we had settled on a good option, spoken with his family and church, and begun orientation.  Before we knew it he had received a notoriously difficult to obtain visa and was flying off for a year to join a WEC team in a resistant country in Asia.  Here are some extracts from his latest newsletter.

“Recently a friend and I were able to leave our city and travel to a more remote region.  The city we arrived in felt rather oppressive and heavy so we spent a lot of time in prayer, considering what God wanted for this city and asking him to remove the obstacles.”

“One highlight was in meeting a blind believer who was very disillusioned at not being able to read the Bible.  Thankfully with MP3 players that needn’t be a problem anymore, and someone is going to drop one off to her soon.”

“From here we moved onto a much smaller town and met with another church planting team who asked us to meet some people in an outlying village that had not been visited for a while.  The travel instructions seemed simple enough, but after getting somewhat lost we wandered into another valley and stumbled upon a friendly local and some very frightened children.  We handed out lollies and soon had quite a following.”

“Upon accepting some village hospitality we discovered that we were the first foreigners they had seen visit this valley.  No wonder the children were scared!  It was such a privilege to share some of the stories of Jesus with them.  We eventually left reflecting on the Parable of the Mustard Seed.  Great things can happen from small beginnings!”
