The Hills are Alive with the Stories of Jesus

WEC church planters Kevin and Brenda lead an NGO in a very sensitive, remote and restrictive region of Asia.  Just days before a six month visit to New Zealand they received some timely encouragements.  Kevin explains, “We noticed a children’s clothes shop with a closing down sign. With a view to buying something for our grandchildren we decided to take a closer look.”

“The young woman inside gave us a broad smile, clearly pleased to have customers and not a little fascinated to see foreigners.    At last curiosity led her to ask why we were in town and what work we did.    We gave her a brief description of some of the medical and other aid and development projects we coordinate.   She considered this for a moment, and then with a big grin said in local language, “You do all this because of the love of Jesus, don’t you!”   Glad that there were no other people in the shop to eavesdrop we responded positively, upon which she rushed forward and gave Brenda a great big hug!”

“The woman then went on to explain that she and her husband had been sent to our town by the underground church for six months to study the local language and to plant churches.  Needless to say we were overjoyed to meet them.”

Imagine Kevin and Brenda’s delight when not long after, they met another couple and a young man who were also sent to their town for six months to share the stories of Jesus.  God had raised up new servants to continue the work among these least-reached people.  Kevin and Brenda went on to say, “While we were very surprised and extremely encouraged, you can tell why we are looking forward to getting back to the hills!”
