Sacrifice

We have just finished a great conference. Our speaker this year had the topic sacrifice one of our 4 pillars.

Trevor took the quote by C.T. Studd "If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him", and changed the word "If" to "Since Jesus Christ be God... A reminder of the sacrifice that has been made for us by Jesus and what should be our response to that.

Trevor also talked about the way we look at the word sacrifice today. He suggested that the words "Costly discipleship" or "radical discipleship" are perhaps a better term to use today than sacrifice in the WEC context. We need to be faithful to the journey God has called us to. To (in my words) walk the talk despite the obstacles. Mary the mother of Jesus was given as a good example of costly discipleship. Mary's words to the angel were "I am the Lords servant (slave), and I am willing to accept whatever he wants." (LK 1:38) Followed in the next chapter by Simeon's words to Mary, "A sword will pierce your very soul." (Lk 2:35). We need to be obedient to God whatever it might cost us; financially, physically, emotionally ????.

Trevor also said we need to be obedient with joy. Sometimes the cost part is about being somewhere YOU perhaps do not want to be but knowing that is where you are meant to be, for the moment, and being joyful about it. Hummm probably a word to me at this point in time. So the challenge is, are you where God wants you to be and if you are be filled with joy because despite the circumstances you find yourself in "the grass will not be greener on the other side of the fence."
