Blessed to be a Blessing

I was reading the other day Genesis and the story of Jacob interesting stuff. Chapter 47 begins with what some might call, an unusual story, of Jacob blessing Pharaoh. I mean what is a “local yokel” doing going up to Thee! King of Egypt and saying “excuse me I would like to bless you!” I suppose Pharaoh was not going to say no when Jacob’s son was a powerful man in Egypt but still it seems rather weird. This calls for the commentary.

John Sailhamer: “Significantly, the central concern of the narrative is to show that Jacob "blessed Pharaoh" when he was brought before him. Lying behind such an emphasis in the narrative is God's promise to Abraham that he would bless those who blessed the offspring of Abraham. The passage shows that in Joseph and Jacob, the promise to Abraham was being fulfilled with the nations round about them.”

He notes that this is important because it was mentioned twice. Cool aye!! In the midst of all that is taking place – a famine beyond belief, meeting up with lost son, moving house and to a new country. Jacob still takes time out to bless those who are blessing him. To put things in perspective. He know he serves a God Yaweh who is in control of things a God who is interested in all humanity and what we are up to.

So my challenge how are we going in blessing others all over the place. No matter whom they are or where they are.
